Hi all! I made a cute set of floral nails to match my Liz Lisa phone wallpaper, haha~

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Base Pink – KIT Playas de Arena
  • Light Pink – OPI Pinking of You
  • Dark Pink – KIT First Kiss
  • Light Green – Etude House #CGR701
  • Dark Green – Essie Sew Psyched
  • Top Coat – Seche Vite
  • Gold chain beads and gold studs

First, I used a dotting tool to put down some big splotches of Pinking of You. Then I used a smaller dotting tool to outline the rose petals using First Kiss. To paint the leaves, I used a Warhammer model painting brush to make a teardrop shape with CGR701. Lastly, I used a mini dotting tool to add shading to the leaves with Sew Psyched. And voila~ vintage rose nails! Then I stuck some gold studs and chain on for extra decoration.

This set is available on my Etsy store. Thanks for reading!

Swatches: Quo by Orly in Celestial Stars

celestialstars_6 copy

Hi all! Today I’ll be reviewing a polish from Quo by Orly  called Celestial Stars. Quo is Shoppers Drug Mart’s in-house beauty brand. Most Quo products are pretty good, and I figured if Orly it making their nail polishes, they must be good too! This is a sparkly ultramarine blue that shifts to royal purple in the light. I suspect that it’s just a reformulated version of one of my favourite discontinued polishes – Orly Cosmic FX in Lunar Eclipse. I know the purple-blue duochrome is completely played out by now, but I can’t help myself. It’s my favourite colour combination~ so, let’s get started!

Packaging: 4/5

The polish comes in rounded 14 mL bottles, along with 2 mixing balls. The brush is very nice – narrow, with no loose fibres. The rubberized lid is helpfully stamped with a white ‘Q’ so it’s easy for me to find in my nail polish box! The problem is that the rubberized coating on the lid attracts loads of dust and lint – might not be a good idea to keep this around your makeup as it’ll certainly get dirty. I’ve only had the polish for a short time and you can already see how dusty they are. My other gripe is that the label is black, so it’s hard to read unless you’re looking in direct sunlight.

Formula: 4/5

The polish is big-3 free, but it’s got a very strong smell. It applied very smoothly without bubbling, and the consistency was perfect. It took 2 coats to achieve the bottle colour, which surprised me since the first coat was a bit sheer. In the photos I have 3 coats on. The polish dried very quickly, and it had a smooth, glossy finish. Not super shiny, but that was easily fixed with a coat of Seche Vite. I used a crappy top coat initially, but it really didn’t do anything for the colour or shine. You need a good quality top coat to really bring out the colour of this polish – otherwise it may look a little dull. The duochrome effect is a lot more subtle than in the bottle, but it’s still very pretty.

I was disappointed with the amount of tip wear, though. I painted my nails on Friday night, but it was too dim outside to swatch until Sunday morning. In the photo you can see that the tips are already completely worn. I’ve never had a polish wear so quickly on me, even though I do a lot of typing and work with my hands. I expected better wear from such an expensive polish.

Value: 3.5/5

I picked Celestial Stars up at Shoppers for $10 CAD – I’ve never seen the Quo by Orly line go on sale, so that didn’t factor into my evaluation at all. This is a really nice polish, and it’s a great dupe of some discontinued/expensive duochrome polishes. For comparison, OPI DS Magic costs $15 on sale, and the Orly Cosmic FX costs $10 now that it’s been discontinued. At the same time, if I’m paying $10 for a nail polish then I want to go more than 2 days without getting obvious tip wear.

Obvious tip wear after only 2 days.

Overall Impression: 4/5

  • Pros: 3-free, applies well, dries quickly
  • Cons: Chips easily, expensive

Nail of the Day: Candy Coloured, 80s/90s Inspired Printed Nails

Hi all! If you read my previous post, you’ll know I’m currently trying to  heal and grow my natural nails. So I’ll be showing off lots of press-ons for the next few weeks while my poor fingers recover from years of abuse, haha~

Anyway, today I was doing some spring cleaning this weekend, and I found loads of old 80s/90s clothes that I haven’t seen in ages! Lots of bright prints, neons, pastels, and bold lines (and horrifying denim pantsuits, but I won’t get into that). So I decided to make some cute colourful nails inspired by that era, with a bit of a modern edge.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • PinkOPI Pinking of You
  • Blue – Etude House #CBL601
  • Pastel Yellow – Etude House #CBE101
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Turquoise – China Glaze For Audrey
  • Bright Yellow – Essence Mellow Yellow
  • White – Sally Hansen White On

I used a fine paintbrush to draw the prints, and outlined them using a calligraphy pen and black India ink. Of course I managed to spill the ink all over the table and it got underneath my fingernails. Now I look like a coal miner, hurray…

This set will be available on my etsy store shortly! And as always, thank you for reading!

Nail of the Day: Candy-Coloured Leopard Print Stiletto Nails

Hello everyone! Just wanted to show off a cute stiletto nail set I made this weekend.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Blue – Etude House #CBL601
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Yellow – Etude House #CBE101

(Oops! You can still see the nail glue…)

At first, I really hated stiletto nails. I thought they looked tacky and silly. But then they started to grow on me…and now I just adore them! They’re edgy and chic. Of course, they’re completely impractical for day-to-day tasks at this length. I tried to type this post with the nails on and hit about 4 different keys at once, haha ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ And so far my office job has been tolerant of my wilder manicures (neon stripes, gradients, glitter, you name it!) but I’m not sure if I could show up wearing inch-long stiletto nails.

Anyway, this set is also available on my etsy store!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge

Hello everybody!

I’ve decided to make my own version of the 31 day nail challenge, except I’m lazy so it’s only 30 days. Haha~

Each day, do a manicure based on your favourite…

  3. Comic book character
  4. Textile or fabric
  5. Sea creature
  6. 4 seasons
  7. Celebrity
  8. Album cover
  9. Piece of clothing (or jewellery, shoes, accessory, etc!)
  10. Nail polish
  11. Music video
  12. Planet
  13. Flower
  14. Cartoon character
  15. Work of art
  16. Movie
  17. Gemstone
  18. Shape
  19. Holiday
  20. Novel or comic book

  24. Landmark
  25. TV show
  26. Ice cream
  27. Fruit or vegetable
  28. Childhood toy
  29. Song
  30. Star Sign

How the challenge works is very simple. Every day, do a nail art design inspired by your favourite thing in the day’s challenge category. For example, Day 7 is Celebrity, so I would do a manicure inspired by my favourite celebrity. My favourite celebrity is Bom Park. Her nails are always so perfect! She goes to Tsuya Nail Shop. I don’t want to steal their photos, so please check the link for some amazing, beautiful Japanese nail art.

Anyways, good luck with the challenge and show off your lovely creations. I’m excited to see!

31 Day Challenge: Day 30 (Inspired by a Tutorial)

Hi all! Today’s challenge is Tutorial. I chose the Vintage Rose nails tutorial by Cutepolish! It’s a simpler way of doing roses than I normally would, but it’s much faster and still looks very cute.

I actually did these a long time ago, but I never got around to posting them. I’ve been so bad about posting lately! This is mostly because I’ve been busy with my job (I’ll never get used to working full-time and long commutes ´⌒`) and my Etsy store, and just…life in general I suppose, haha~  Anyway, onto the nails.

  • White – Acrylic ink
  • Topcoat – Seche Vite
  • Silver studs

It’s finally sunny/warm enough to take photos outside!! No more crappy, blurry photos…at least for a few months.  ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

I might be posting rather sporadically over the next week or two because I’m going to be ultra busy (convocation, yay!) and I may not have access to my camera. I’m getting a new phone with a 12 megapixel camera this week if all goes well, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. However, you guys can look forward to seeing a huge batch of great posts coming up. Here’s a little list of what I have in the works for June and July:

  • A new nail art challenge!
  • Cheeky Jumbo nail stamping plate review
  • Comparison between resin/acrylic vs. glass/crystal/Swarovski rhinestones for nail art
  • Etude House Love Prism nail polish reviews
  • Stamping plate/nail polish raffle giveaway

Manicure Monday and 31 Day Challenge Mashup: Day 29 (Supernatural)

Today’s challenge is Supernatural, which gives me an excellent excuse to paint glitter on my nails and draw unicorns.

31day_supernatural1 copy

31day_supernatural2 copy31day_supernatural3 copy31day_supernatural4 copy

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • White acrylic ink

Yaaaay unicorns! This manicure is pretty simple – I used Sweet Hook in a gradient over 2 coats of #116, then smoothed it out with some topcoat. I then used my calligraphy pen to draw the unicorn and the sparkle shapes. I think I might add some glitter later, because unicorns absolutely require glitter.
