Nail of the Day: Candy Coloured, 80s/90s Inspired Printed Nails

Hi all! If you read my previous post, you’ll know I’m currently trying to  heal and grow my natural nails. So I’ll be showing off lots of press-ons for the next few weeks while my poor fingers recover from years of abuse, haha~

Anyway, today I was doing some spring cleaning this weekend, and I found loads of old 80s/90s clothes that I haven’t seen in ages! Lots of bright prints, neons, pastels, and bold lines (and horrifying denim pantsuits, but I won’t get into that). So I decided to make some cute colourful nails inspired by that era, with a bit of a modern edge.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • PinkOPI Pinking of You
  • Blue – Etude House #CBL601
  • Pastel Yellow – Etude House #CBE101
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Turquoise – China Glaze For Audrey
  • Bright Yellow – Essence Mellow Yellow
  • White – Sally Hansen White On

I used a fine paintbrush to draw the prints, and outlined them using a calligraphy pen and black India ink. Of course I managed to spill the ink all over the table and it got underneath my fingernails. Now I look like a coal miner, hurray…

This set will be available on my etsy store shortly! And as always, thank you for reading!

Manicure Monday and 31 Day Challenge Mashup: Day 29 (Supernatural)

Today’s challenge is Supernatural, which gives me an excellent excuse to paint glitter on my nails and draw unicorns.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • White acrylic ink

Yaaaay unicorns! This manicure is pretty simple – I used Sweet Hook in a gradient over 2 coats of #116, then smoothed it out with some topcoat. I then used my calligraphy pen to draw the unicorn and the sparkle shapes. I think I might add some glitter later, because unicorns absolutely require glitter.

31 Day Challenge: Day 23 (Inspired by a Movie)

Today’s challenge is Inspired by a Movie. I’m going back to work this week, so I couldn’t do anything too outrageous. And of course I had to go and break my thumbnail halfway across, so it’s patched up with a teabag and superglue…

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Turquoise China Glaze For Audrey
  • Topcoat  –  Essence Absolute Pure
  • Black acrylic ink
  • Crystal rhinestones and pearls

This manicure is inspired by the movie Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Of course, nothing could be more fitting than using Tiffany blue, so of course For Audrey was the go-to choice.I used the rhinestones and pearls on the accent nails to mimic the iconic black dress and necklace that Audrey Hepburn wears in the movie.

31 Day Challenge: Day 18 (Half-Moons)

Today’s challenge is Half-Moons. God I was so tired when I did these haha…it shows. But I still think this is a cute idea for a mani or nailset!

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • Black India Ink

I made the half-moons just by sweeping the brush across the halfway point on each nail. Then I used my calligraphy pen and ink to draw cute lace patterns and polka dots. Last, I sealed it all in with some topcoat, which unfortunately took half the ink with it!

Manicure Mondays and 31 Day Challenge Mashup: Day 11 (Polka Dot)

Today’s actual challenge is Polka Dot. I lied.

Nail Polishes Used:

  • China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Seche Vite

Yup…more Sweet Hook, haha. This is definitely one of my favourite colours. I used a dotting tool dipped in white acrylic to do the polka dots, since that way it’s easy to erase mistakes. And boy, do I make mistakes…I have a love hate relationship with polka dots. I can’t stand when they’re not in straight lines or when the dots aren’t all the same size…so I redid them all about 3 times before giving up, lol! Then I used some glue to stick a resin bow to my thumb, which promptly fell off 10 seconds after I took the photo. Sigh.

31 Day Challenge: Day 10 (Gradient)

Haha! As you can see I haven’t been keeping up on this at all…but in my defence, it’s time for my university finals so I’ve been quite busy studying. So, today I present you today’s challenge: Gradient nails. I’m mostly posting because today’s been the only sunny day in…2 weeks? I don’t like taking photos with interior lighting.

Oops…I just noticed I smudged the design on the thumbnail in between the 1st and 2nd pictures. D’oh!

Nail Polishes Used:

  • China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Essence Absolute Pure
  • Etude House #CBL601

I know you guys have seen me use this colour before…but I just love the combination of blue and purple. It’s just your standard ombre gradient manicure with a fun little white design (acrylic ink) on the thumbnail. I’ve actually had someone ask me if I would make a tutorial on how to do gradient nails since mine always look smooth and gradated with no patchiness. So, let me know if you’re interested and I’ll share my secrets!
