Swatches: Missha The Style Gemstone Nails in Citrine, Aquamarine, and Amethyst

Hello everyone~ today I’m going to be reviewing 3 Missha nail polishes. I’ve never bought Missha nail polish so I was excited to see the Gemstone Nails collection on sale! I picked up Citrine (orange), Aquamarine (blue), and Amethyst (purple). Let’s get started! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Packaging: 10/10

Missha’s packaging is feminine and pretty without being overly girly. The polish comes in curved 8 mL heart-shaped bottles with the Missha logo on the front. They don’t stack together or anything so storage isn’t as easy, but they look lovely lined up on a shelf. The caps are short and sturdy, and they’re made of a pretty iridescent black plastic that shimmers red/blue in the light. They have standard long, thin brushes. Lastly, they come with mixing balls – good job Missha!

Formula: 4/10

When I leaned in with my camera for a closer look, I was disappointed to see curled glitter in all 3 polishes! At first I thought it was the curve of the bottle distorting my vision, but the glitter is actually slightly curled. Nooo! ´⌒` The curling is the worst in Aquamarine – every glitter has curled. In Citrine, for some reason the giant gold hex hasn’t curled but all the smaller glitter did. And in Amethyst, all the hex glitter has curled but the star glitter is ok. The batch is from 26 February 2013 according to the sticker. Since it’s been sitting for a few months already, it probably won’t curl much more (I hope).

Anyway, as for the rest of the formula, it’s simply “ok.” Like most glitter polishes, it’s thick and a bit sticky. It didn’t apply very smoothly/evenly and left some streaks. On the bright side, the glitter goes on thickly! I got a nice amount of glitter with every coat. There’s also a pleasant surprise – the polish is scented! There’s a subtle rosy floral fragrance that fades as it dries. I noticed when I was painting that it wasn’t as stinky as other polishes, and the rose scent isn’t overpowering or fake-smelling. The box also says it contains Vitamin C and botanical extracts from pumpkin, hibiscus, and strawberry in addition to powder from crushed pearl, tourmaline, coral, and sapphire for shine. That’s nice and all, but I just wish I could find out if it’s 3-free or not!

Value: 6/10

I bought this from Ebay so I know I paid a bit more than it’s worth ($5 CAD), but you can buy it directly from Missha USA for $3. At least it’s cheap, since I would be pitching a fit right now if I’d spent more than that. I don’t think $3 is a lot for a small bottle of polish considering the curling isn’t too bad and the colours are pretty – although that’s basically $6 for a full size bottle and I’d rather buy China Glaze if I’m gong to spend that much.  You can also find it at KoreaDepart  for $2.34 USD. I picked it up from f2plus1 on Ebay for $4.90 USD.

Overall Impression: 5/10

  • Pros: Gorgeous packaging, very glittery, pleasant scent, fair price
  • Cons: Curling glitter, streaky application, a little too thick, no indication that it’s big-3 free

Cuteberry Lacquers Returns From The Dead! Sneak Peek For July 1 Launch~

Hi all!

If you’ve been following my blog since I first started writing in January 2013 (thank you!), then you know that I launched my own indie polish shop a few months ago. At the time I was having so many issues with shipping internationally and getting supplies shipped to/from that I had to put everything on hold.  I am very pleased to announce that I’m starting up shop again, as I’ve found an affordable shipping provider for US and international orders! Rejoice! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

I’m still working on getting a better price for Canadian shipping right now – unfortunately it’s very hard to ship parcels to my fellow Canadians. I have found a shipping provider that ships for about half the price of Canada Post! But now I can ship worldwide as long as it’s legal for them to receive such things in the mail.

On July 1, I’ll be re-launching Cuteberry Lacquers on my Etsy shop with a great sale! Between July 1 and Jule 8, use the coupon code HelloWorld at checkout to receive 10% off your entire order . Initially 10 polishes will be available, with more colours and collections coming out over time. I tried to make this set of colours varied – there’s clear glitter topcoats, jellies, flakies, and cremes.

Nail of the Day: Candy-Coloured Leopard Print Stiletto Nails

Hello everyone! Just wanted to show off a cute stiletto nail set I made this weekend.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Blue – Etude House #CBL601
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Yellow – Etude House #CBE101

(Oops! You can still see the nail glue…)

At first, I really hated stiletto nails. I thought they looked tacky and silly. But then they started to grow on me…and now I just adore them! They’re edgy and chic. Of course, they’re completely impractical for day-to-day tasks at this length. I tried to type this post with the nails on and hit about 4 different keys at once, haha ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ And so far my office job has been tolerant of my wilder manicures (neon stripes, gradients, glitter, you name it!) but I’m not sure if I could show up wearing inch-long stiletto nails.

Anyway, this set is also available on my etsy store!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge

Hello everybody!

I’ve decided to make my own version of the 31 day nail challenge, except I’m lazy so it’s only 30 days. Haha~

Each day, do a manicure based on your favourite…

  1. Dessert or candy
  2. Drink or cocktail
  3. Comic book character
  4. Textile or fabric
  5. Sea creature
  6. 4 seasons
  7. Celebrity
  8. Album cover
  9. Piece of clothing (or jewellery, shoes, accessory, etc!)
  10. Nail polish
  11. Music video
  12. Planet
  13. Flower
  14. Cartoon character
  15. Work of art
  16. Movie
  17. Gemstone
  18. Shape
  19. Holiday
  20. Novel or comic book
  21. Colour
  22. Sports team
  23. Flag
  24. Landmark
  25. TV show
  26. Ice cream
  27. Fruit or vegetable
  28. Childhood toy
  29. Song
  30. Star Sign

How the challenge works is very simple. Every day, do a nail art design inspired by your favourite thing in the day’s challenge category. For example, Day 7 is Celebrity, so I would do a manicure inspired by my favourite celebrity. My favourite celebrity is Bom Park. Her nails are always so perfect! She goes to Tsuya Nail Shop. I don’t want to steal their photos, so please check the link for some amazing, beautiful Japanese nail art.

Anyways, good luck with the challenge and show off your lovely creations. I’m excited to see!

31 Day Challenge: Day 30 (Inspired by a Tutorial)

Hi all! Today’s challenge is Tutorial. I chose the Vintage Rose nails tutorial by Cutepolish! It’s a simpler way of doing roses than I normally would, but it’s much faster and still looks very cute.

I actually did these a long time ago, but I never got around to posting them. I’ve been so bad about posting lately! This is mostly because I’ve been busy with my job (I’ll never get used to working full-time and long commutes ´⌒`) and my Etsy store, and just…life in general I suppose, haha~  Anyway, onto the nails.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Dark purple – KIT Spring Awakening
  • Light purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Green – Etude House CGR701
  • Black – Sation Black
  • White – Acrylic ink
  • Topcoat – Seche Vite
  • Silver studs

It’s finally sunny/warm enough to take photos outside!! No more crappy, blurry photos…at least for a few months.  ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

I might be posting rather sporadically over the next week or two because I’m going to be ultra busy (convocation, yay!) and I may not have access to my camera. I’m getting a new phone with a 12 megapixel camera this week if all goes well, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. However, you guys can look forward to seeing a huge batch of great posts coming up. Here’s a little list of what I have in the works for June and July:

  • A new nail art challenge!
  • Cheeky Jumbo nail stamping plate review
  • Comparison between resin/acrylic vs. glass/crystal/Swarovski rhinestones for nail art
  • Etude House Love Prism nail polish reviews
  • Stamping plate/nail polish raffle giveaway
  • Nail art tutorials: perfect ombre/gradient, studded flowers, peacock feathers, jewelled bows, princess tiaras, animal prints, pastel grunge, cute animals, and more!
  • A beginner’s shopping guide for nail art materials
  • A guide to choosing the best nail shape for you, and how to file your nails into that shape
  • A master list of places to buy nail polish, including obscure/indie brands

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll enjoy the great content I have in store!

Manicure Monday and 31 Day Challenge Mashup: Day 29 (Supernatural)

Today’s challenge is Supernatural, which gives me an excellent excuse to paint glitter on my nails and draw unicorns.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Purple – China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • White acrylic ink

Yaaaay unicorns! This manicure is pretty simple – I used Sweet Hook in a gradient over 2 coats of #116, then smoothed it out with some topcoat. I then used my calligraphy pen to draw the unicorn and the sparkle shapes. I think I might add some glitter later, because unicorns absolutely require glitter.

31 Day Challenge: Day 28 (Inspired by a Flag)

Today’s challenge is Flag.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Red – China Glaze Ruby Pumps
  • Blue – OPI Blue My Mind
  • Black – Nicole by OPI Razzle Dazzler
  • Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • White acrylic ink
  • Gold chains, studs, and caviar beads
  • Clear glass rhinestones

The timing is perfect, since this is the Victoria Day long weekend. For you non-Canadians, Victoria Day celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.  So, these nails are inspired by the Union Jack. I think my favourite is the Buckingham Palace guard…I love his little pink cheeks! I just wish I had some black flocking powder for his bearskin cap. =)
